• Among the investors are co-founders of Wise (Transferwise), Teleport, Pipedrive, and Bolt. The round was supported by Horizon Capital and existing investors TA Ventures and Flyer One Ventures, which invested in the startup in 2019.
• According to the startup’s representatives, the funds raised will go toward expansion in the American and Polish markets.
• Mate Academy is an online academy for IT professions that provides a four-month programming course in exchange for a percentage of salary after employment. The students of the academy learn Java, Front-end, Full Stack Web, and UI/UX Design. In exchange for free courses, students pay 17% of their salary after employment for two years.
• After the seed round in 2019, Mate Academy’s revenue grew 20-fold. Currently, the online academy has 1,300 employed students and 60 employees.

As explained by TransferWise, previously the transfer of funds was carried out in three-time intervals. In most cases, money to a Ukrainian user from abroad came either on the same day or on the next day. But if people made a transaction on Friday after a certain time, the funds were credited only on Monday.

Now Ukrainian users will be able to receive transfers instantly 24/7, representatives of TransferWise noted. Bank holidays will not be a cause for delay.

In addition:

• TransferWise notes that the service is now available to all Ukrainian users, and not just clients of PrivatBank. Earlier monobank also began supporting the service.
• PrivatBank customers can now receive money in USD and EUR through TransferWise – for this they will need to have a personal card.

• Investors include Lead Edge Capital, Lone Pine Capital, and Vitruvian Partners. The company noted that the new round allowed current shareholders (most of whom are employees), as well as early investors, to sell their shares. In addition, TransferWise has attracted new investors, including BlackRock, the world’s largest asset operator, which has financial resources, experience, and connections around the world.
• TransferWise is a money transfer service launched in 2011. The company says it serves 5 million customers worldwide, processing transactions for £4 billion (more than $5 billion). TransferWise employs more than 1,600 people in twelve offices around the world, including Cherkasy.
• Management stresses that the company has been profitable for more than two years. At the end of the last fiscal year, which ended in March 2018, TransferWise net income was £6.2 million (more than $7.8 million).
