What is Diia City? (in a nutshell)

Diia City is a special operational mode for Ukrainian IT companies providing special conditions, taxation, and a new form of interaction — gig contracts — for its participants. It also implements several terms from British law that will be useful for companies getting foreign investments — option contracts, convertible loans, etc. But it also introduces some limitations for the cooperation with FOPs (individual entrepreneurs).

How to check if a company may participate in Diia City?

AIN.UA has described entry terms of Diia City in the past; now we would like to recall them briefly (you can also check them under article 5 of the Digital Economy Promotion Law:

• A Diia City resident must be registered in Ukraine.
• The company must do one or more activities determined under part 4, article 5 of the Law (e.g., programming, software testing and publishing, developing computer games and databases, etc. — the complete list is stated at the end of this article, for more, please see the next part).
• The average monthly salary must be from 1,200 EUR according to the official exchange rate of the NBU.
• The average number of workers and gig specialists must be not less than nine.
• At least 90% of income must be qualified (it means it must be generated from the activities stated under part 4, article 5 of the Law).

What activities can be done by Diia City residents?

The activities that are supposed to be promoted by this Bill and are required from companies to join Diia City are following (we have shortened the list a bit, but still, it contains the main of them):

1. Computer programming, informatization consulting, hardware management, including
   1. Software development, modification, testing, and technical support, including computer games, and other types of work at all stages of the software development lifecycle, including business analysis, user interface design, etc.;
   2. System software and application development, including computer games, databases, and websites;
   3. Software setup for the customer informational systems and end-user devices; configuration of third-party software;
   4. Planning and projecting integrated computer systems combining hardware and software; consulting and training for users of such systems;
   5. Administration and operation of custom computer systems and/or data-processing means;
   6. Other development, modification, tests, and technical support of computer games.
2. Computer game publishing.
3. Providing online software products, including computer games.
4. Education in the IT industry.
5. Data processing and related activities, except for renting infrastructure for data processing and publishing (hosting); websites function, including automated data processing, report generation, website administration, etc.
6. Study and experimental development in natural and technical sciences connected with IT.
7. Performing marketing campaigns and providing advertising services using programs developed by a Diia City resident.
8. Organization of cybersport contests, teams, centers, and clubs for such competitions.
9. Providing services connected to virtual assets turnover.
10. Providing cybersecurity services for information and communication systems, including detection and protection against cyberattacks, liquidation of their consequences, etc.
11. Robotics.
12. Other types of activities determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.

How to apply for Diia City residency?

There are not so many details about how the Diia City entry process will look. However, according to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, it must be declarative and straightforward. What can we know for sure?

• To join Diia City, a firm registered as a legal entity must submit a specific application to the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
• It will be possible at the particular web portal that is being developed by the Ministry. AIN.UA will inform you about the start of the portal later.
• After submitting basic information about the company, all other data will be automatically loaded from state registries.
• The applicants must check if the final information is correct, sign the application with their digital signature, and press the “Submit” button.
• The declaration principle of application means that if there are no reasons to return it without acceptance, the company will automatically become a resident of the special mode. The Ministry reps said that Diia City would function on the tacit agreement: if an applicant received no response after ten days, his application is considered as accepted.
• The application can be returned without acceptance due to mistakes, lack of authorization of the company representative, no entries in the Unified State Register about the company, or according to the applicant’s will.  An application can also be declined if an applicant meets negative criteria.
• After applying, the candidate will be checked for negative criteria. The Ministry of Digital Transformation will use open sources — state registries, databases, information from authorities, and intergovernmental organizations. So, there will be no need to provide any references.
  • The negative criteria (causes for refusal) are, for example, a non-Ukrainian registration, a non-profit company, a firm with unknown beneficiaries, an entity the shares of which are directly or indirectly in possession of the Russian Federation or its citizens, etc. The complete list of negative criteria is stated under part 2, article 5 of the Law mentioned above.
• In addition, after 3 to 6 months of residency, the company must provide a compliance report and an auditor’s conclusion. Startups must submit it only after a year of residency.

About the comet

Comet Leonard, or C/2021 A1, was discovered in January 2021. It was beyond the orbit of Mars and was barely visible through powerful telescopes as a dim spot. But its trajectory is through the inner solar system, and it will pass both Venus and Earth in December 2021. And then it will turn around the Sun in January 2022.

It is difficult to predict the behavior of comets in general. But according to preliminary estimates, Comet Leonard will be bright enough in December to be seen with binoculars and even with the unaided eye. In a telescope, the comet looks very beautiful — having a green-tinged coma and an extended dust tail. Here is a photo of it published by NASA, created by combining 62 images taken through a telescope.

Orbital calculations revealed that Comet Leonard had spent the last 35,000 years wending its way sunward after reaching aphelion at the chilling distance of around 3,500 astronomical units (An AU is approximately 93 million miles (150 million km) or a distance between the Earth and the Sun).

When and how could you see it?

In December, Comet C/2021 A1 can be seen from Earth’s Northern Hemisphere. For this, you will need to find some bright stars and constellations. The comet moves very fast, so its position among the stars will be changing daily during early December 2021.

For example, to observe the comet in early December 2021, 90 minutes before sunrise, you need to find Arcturus, the brightest star in the northern constellation of Boötes:

To quickly find constellations, stars, and planets in the sky, you can use mobile apps: point your smartphone camera at the sky, and the app will identify all celestial objects. Here are some apps: Heavens Above, The Night Sky, Stellarium, etc.

A little later, in mid-December, the comet can be spotted after sunset. Here is a picture of its position at the time of December 14-16, 2021.

On December 18, 2021, about 30 minutes after sunset, comet Leonard will be [possibly] visible to the naked eye below planet Venus.

Who can find a lost and turned off iPhone

The new “Find My” feature is available to users of the following iPhone models:

• iPhone 11
• iPhone 11 Pro / iPhone 11 Pro Max
• iPhone 12 / iPhone 12 Mini
• iPhone 12 Pro / iPhone 12 Pro Max
• iPhone 13 / iPhone 13 Mini
• iPhone 13 Pro / iPhone 13 Pro Max

The notification “iPhone Findable After Power Off” under the power-down toggle when shutting down your phone — means the feature is active.

How to activate the feature

If Apple’s Find My is turned off, you will have to set it up first. Here are instructions on how to start:

• Go to settings, tap on your name, and then on “Find My.”
• Tap on “Find My iPhone” and switch it on.

If you have upgraded to iOS 15, you can also activate “Find My Network,” which will let you find your phone even if it is offline.

If you enable the feature “Send Last Location,” it will send the location of your iPhone to your Apple account when the battery is about to die.

You can also track your iPhone using the Find My app on your Mac or another iPhone. Any browser will also work — go to iCloud.com/find and sign in using your Apple ID.

In the web version, you will be able to do the following: play the sound on your phone, put it on “Lost Mode,” or erase the data. When using the Find My app, you get the same options, plus map directions on how to get to your iPhone.

As The Washington Post reports, there have been a lot of cases where an apartment owner has installed hidden surveillance cameras in bedrooms, bathrooms, and other inappropriate places. This article contains tips for detecting such devices.

Check suspicious electronics

When you arrive at your rented accommodation, experts recommend paying attention to smoke detectors, radios, outlets, and any electronic devices placed in the private areas, like the bedroom and bathroom. Particular attention should be paid to those devices that have a view of the bed.

The spy cameras are often hidden inside ordinary objects such as alarm clocks, chargers, smoke detectors, and other electronics, the presence of which will not be suspicious to the guests. There are several ways to find the hidden cameras:

• Shine a light onto the suspicious surfaces, like a watch face. This will help you see the lens usually hidden behind black matte plastic or a two-way mirror and invisible to the naked eye.
• Turn off lights in your room and use the front-facing camera on your smartphone to look for the infrared LEDs used in night-vision cameras. The main camera will not do that because it is equipped with an IR filter.

Scan WiFi networks

Another important part of checking your apartment is to scan WiFi networks for suspicious devices. This method is not very reliable because the owner could change the name of their camera or not connect it to WiFi at all, but the check will not be a waste of time.

You can do network scanning using specialized software such as Network Scanner, Network Mapper, or Angry IP Scanner. There are hundreds of similar apps not only for computers but also for Android and iOS.

As a result of the scanning, the user gets a list of all devices connected to WiFi. But even if there is nothing with the name “IP camera” in it, it is better to check whether all devices are yours.

Thomas Ham, a founder of the professional TSCM company Spy Catchers, says that travelers can turn off an accommodation’s WiFi and router on arrival. If the host calls you about a problem, you can ask if there are any cameras in the room that you haven’t been told about.

How to temporarily disable your account

You can delete an Instagram profile only in the web version or via your phone browser.

1. To temporarily disable your account, open the profile page in the browser and click Edit profile.
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Temporarily disable my account.
3. Instagram will ask you to indicate the reason for disabling your account – please select from the drop-down list and confirm the action by entering a password.

The temporarily deleted profile will be hidden from other users. To reactivate the page, you need to log in again using the Instagram app or web version. Please note that you can disable an account no more than once a week.

How to permanently delete an Instagram account

It’s a bit more complicated to delete the page permanently. You can go to the Deletion page by clicking this link or using the following instructions:

Using your phone:

1. On the Instagram app, go to the Settings menu and click Help.
2. Go to the Help Center and click Manage Your Account (or type ‘Delete Account’ in the search bar).
3. Select Delete Your Account and open the ‘How do I delete my Instagram account?’ tab.
4. Instagram will prompt you to go to the deletion page in the ‘To request the permanent deletion of your account‘ instruction block.
5. Indicate the reason for deleting your account by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down list and clicking Finish.
6. Confirm the action by entering your password.
7. Your Instagram account has been deleted.

Through the web version:

1. On the Instagram.com website, in the lower horizontal menu click Help.
2. In the Help Center menu, go to Manage Your Account and then click Delete Your Account.
3. Instagram will prompt you to go to the deletion page in the ‘To request the permanent deletion of your account‘ instruction block.
4. Indicate the reason for deleting your account by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down list and clicking the finish button.
5. Confirm the action by entering your password.
6. Your Instagram account has been deleted.

It should be noted that after you have confirmed the deletion of the page, the profile will still be visible on Instagram for another month. Thus, the data can be restored by re-logging into the system. To do this, just enter the profile name and password. If you do not do it within a month, your account will be automatically permanently deleted.

In 2021, Instagram announced that it was taking the LIKE hiding experiment to a global level. AIN.UA noticed the option in its personal Instagram profile and shared how to hide the likes counter. Read more about this in our article.

Export your data

If a user wants to export their data from Telegram before deleting it, they need to:

• Go to Settings (the icon in the upper left corner of the application, three horizontal lines)
• In the Settings menu, go to the Advanced options (only available in the desktop version of Telegram)
• Click on ‘Export Telegram Data’
• Then select the type of data you want to export (contacts, chat contents, etc.) and download it

How to delete Telegram account

There are two ways to delete your account.

Telegram deactivates the user’s account itself if they haven’t logged in for a while. By default, this period is set for six months, but you can change it in the settings menu.

Here is what you need to do:

• Go to Settings by clicking on the icon in the upper left corner and select ‘Privacy and Security.’
• Scroll down to ‘Delete My Account’ and change the period to one month.

• Keep from using the app for a month and Telegram will delete the account automatically.

If you do not want to wait a month, there is a faster way to do this:

• Visit the Telegram Deactivation Page and enter the phone number that is linked to the account. Telegram will send a confirmation code not as SMS, but in the application.
• After entering the code, a list of actions will appear, including account deletion:

• The service will offer the user to enter the reason why they want to delete the account. The user will also be warned that all messages and contacts will be deleted without the possibility to restore them. However, the groups and channels created by the user will remain online. If the user was the only admin there, Telegram will assign a randomly selected active member to that position.
• Then click “Delete my account” and once again confirm your decision.
• After that, it will not be possible to start a new Telegram account from the same number for a few more days.
• Telegram says it erases all user data after deleting their account. For example, if the user signs up with the same number after a while, the old messages, chats, and groups will not be available.

How to hide Like counts on Instagram

In a nutshell:

• Select the photo where you want to hide the likes
• Click on the triple dot icon at the top of the photo
• Tap “Hide like count”
• If it is a video, the user hides not only the number of likes but also the number of views

Details

Users have two new options: to hide the number of likes on personal photos and disable the counter on the posts of other users. It’s noteworthy that the user can’t hide all the likes on personal photos at once – they can enable the feature in the settings of each image. Here’s how to do it:

• Open your Instafram prifile
• Click on the photo where you want to hide likes
• Click the triple dot icon at the top of the photo
• Tap “Hide like count”

You can also hide the counter while posting a photo. To do this, go to “Settings” and enable the option “Hide Like and View Counts.”

Besides, you can hide the number of likes of other users in Instagram settings. In this case, the user won’t be able to see the number of likes, while the feed will still be generated based on potentially interesting posts for a particular person.

• Go to Settings and select Privacy
• Click on Posts
• Enable the option “Hide Like and View Counts”

Why it’s interesting

Facebook, which owns Instagram, says the feature of hiding the likes will help focus users on the content rather than studying its popularity. For this reason, the company is actively working on its implementation, particularly on Facebook. The preliminary testing showed that not all users need such a feature – for example, some of them use data to determine the popularity or relevance of their content. Therefore the company decided to provide some variants of settings.

It is also interesting that Instagram has not announced the official launch of this feature. In April 2021, it became known only about the start of global testing. Users who received access to this option were promised to send a notification, but our journalist has not received any notifications.
